Accessibility & Aging in Place
ADA-style home modifications
We modify homes for accessibility across Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, Santa Fe, Los Lunas, and Bernalillo, New Mexico — roll-in showers, grab bars, ramps, widened doorways, and aging-in-place remodels done so a house keeps working for the person living in it.
Accessibility work is measurement work. Clear floor space, turning radius, door width, threshold height, reach ranges, and grab bar placement all have numbers behind them, and getting them right is the difference between a modification that helps and one that is merely there.
Grab bars belong in blocking, not in drywall anchors. We open the wall and add solid backing where bars go, which also lets you add bars later without another demo.
Roll-in and curbless showers need the slope and drain planned before the floor is built, plus a linear drain in most cases. On a slab, that means cutting and re-forming — real work, priced honestly, and worth it when someone needs to roll in rather than step over.

Common Questions
- Do private homes have to meet ADA?
- No — ADA applies to public accommodations. For a private residence we build to those standards as a guide because the dimensions come from how people actually move, then tailor them to the person using the space.
- Can my existing tub become a roll-in shower?
- Often yes. A tub-to-shower conversion with a curbless entry and linear drain is a common project. The drain location and floor build-up decide how involved it gets.
- How wide does a doorway need to be?
- Thirty-two inches clear is the usual target, which typically means a 36-inch door. Widening may need a new header if the wall carries load.
- Can ramps be permanent instead of portable?
- Yes. A built ramp with the correct slope, landings, and handrails is safer and holds up better than a portable unit, and we build them to that standard.
