Decks & Outdoor Living

Decks, patio covers, and pergolas

We build decks, porches, pergolas, and patio covers across Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, Santa Fe, Los Lunas, and Bernalillo, New Mexico — composite or wood, engineered for wind and sun and permitted where the code requires it.

Outdoor living in New Mexico is mostly a shade problem. A patio cover or pergola over the right elevation turns an unusable west-facing slab into the part of the house you use every evening from April through October.

Decks here take intense UV and big temperature swings. Composite decking such as TimberTech holds up with far less maintenance than wood and does not splinter, though it costs more up front. Wood is still the value option if you will seal it on schedule.

Structure is not optional. Footings below frost depth, correctly sized posts and beams, proper ledger attachment and flashing where the deck meets the house, and code-compliant guards and stairs. Ledger failures are how decks come off houses.

Common Questions

Composite or wood?
Composite if you want to stop maintaining it — no sealing, no splinters, long warranties, higher up-front cost. Wood if the budget is tighter and you will actually re-seal it every couple of years in this sun.
Do decks need a permit?
Usually yes once they are attached to the house or above a certain height. We check with your jurisdiction and pull what is required.
Can you repair a deck instead of replacing it?
If the framing, footings, and ledger are sound, resurfacing with new decking and rails is a real option. If the structure is compromised, replacing it is the safe answer, and we will show you what we found.
Can a patio cover attach to my existing roof?
Often yes, with the right flashing and structural connection. Freestanding structures are sometimes the better detail depending on your roofline — we will lay out both.
